Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers - was born July 8, 1989 in Paris. After moving to Oxfordshire at the age of five, Emma enrolled at The Dragon School. Emma always had the desire to become an actor when she was just six. She attended Stagecoach Theatre Arts in Oxford, an acting school that offers part-time classes. Through a school play as well as a Stagecoach show, she took the lead at the age 10, and acted. Casting began in 1999 to cast Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the film adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Agents for casting found Emma through her Oxford theatre instructor. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone, and Ron Weasley told Emma after eight auditions that she had been picked for these roles. She was cast alongside Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. Emma's first film on the screen took place in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone which was released in 2001. It was the highest-grossing film of 2001 it set new records in its first day sales as well as the opening weekend's earnings. Film critics praised the film as well as its performances by the three leading young actors. The Daily Telegraph in Britain that is distributed widely the newspaper, described her performance as outstanding. Emma got five nominations in recognition of her impressive performance. In the end, she received the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actresses of a Film.
